WELCOME TO KILL CUPID DOT COM!
Kill Cupid was formed in 2006 while
singer/guitarist Derrick Ruthless was employed at the Experience
Music Project. Standing bored at a hand stamp station, Derrick
started composing songs in his head and scratching lyrics on bits of
paper and old receipts in his pockets. Working at the EMP gave
Derrick access to a huge music community and the opportunity to meet
some of his idols—like Dave Dederer of The Presidents who
recommended he record with Conrad Uno. Derrick found a drummer, labeled the
two piece Kill Cupid, and took his advice.
Kill Cupid recorded their first album with Conrad Uno (The Presidents, Mudhoney) on 2" tape at Egg Studios and released it independently in 2008. In 2009, Kill Cupid embarked on a west coast tour in support of that album. Kill Cupid have played all the Seattle staples including The Central, El Corazon, Chop Suey, The High Dive and more. The band has also produced and appeared in several music videos for Seattle's Team Awesome and have had radio play on 99.9 KISW's Loud and Local program.
The duo (consisting of guitarist Derrick Ruthless and drummer Nate Butler) are currently putting the final touches on their second album—which they have recorded with Steve Jones (Ancient Warlocks, High Class Wreckage) at Big Sound Productions in Seattle, WA. The duo are also compiling a tour DVD of live footage for release in 2012.
